Baroque Music Recital with violin and piano

12283534e5f87f3dbc54f24f10870e0c7355The musicians Andreas Constantinou on violin and Natalia Lezedova on piano, invite you to a recital devoted to Baroque Music, at Technopolis 20 in Paphos, on Sunday, 25th of November 2018, at 8pm.

Andreas, one of the founder member of the Cyprus State Orchestra, who was the lead violinist of the orchestra for 15 years, along with the award-winning pianist Natalia, will present works by Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Vitali and Veraccini.

 

‘The Queen of Cool: Peggy Lee!’ with the Steppin' Out Jazz Band

The Steppin’ Out Jazz Band invites you for their tribute event for one of the greatest Jazz vocalists of the 20th century, Peggy Lee, at Technopolis 20 in Paphos, on Friday, 23rd of November 2018, at 8pm.

Peggy Lee’s vocal flexibility and cool, breathy voice brought sultry distinction to big band showstoppers, pop ballads and soulful laments. She was considered in the same league as Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, and Bessie Smith. Her alluring tone, distinctive delivery, breadth of material, and ability to write many of her own songs made her one of the most captivating artists of the vocal era, from her breakthrough on the Benny Goodman hit ‘Why Don't You Do Right’ to her many solo successes, singles including ‘Lover’ and ‘Fever’ that showed her bewitching vocal power, a balance between sultry swing and impeccable musicianship.

 

Weeks of the German Language: Screening of the documentary ‘The Invisibles-we want to live’

1503the invisibleThe Goethe-Institut Cyprus, within the framework of “Weeks of the German Language”, presents the screening of the documentary film ‘The Invisibles-we want to live’, on Thursday, 22nd of November 2018, at Technopolis 20, starting at 18:30.

The in-part documentary feature film deals with the concealment of Jewish refugees against the backdrop of the persecution of Jews in Berlin during the Second World War. The scenes, based on true events and the experiences of the four people who were the inspiration for the film characters, alternate with detailed interviews with the surviving witnesses. Four Jewish teenagers manage to become invisible during a time when the arrest of Jews in the capital Berlin is reaching its height. (Director: Claus Räfle, drama/ documentary/ historical, 110 min, 2017, in German with English subtitles)

 

‘Café au lait’: 4-hand piano recital

958cafe au lait englishHave you ever been to a classical music concert and been allowed to eat and drink while watching the performance? In most cases, that's strictly forbidden! But we don't mind! 20 fingers, a cup of coffee and a delicious piece of cake will take you on a journey that's going to wake up all your senses! A four-hand piano recital at Technopolis 20 on Sunday, 18th of November 2018, at 6:00 pm with Leoni Hadjithoma and Borislav Alexandrov.

Programme to include works by Rachmaninoff, C. Debussy, G. Gershwin and others.

The two pianists have been collaborating as a piano duo since 2002. Since then they been participating in festivals and giving recitals in Europe and the Middle East. They often collaborate with orchestras in Cyprus and abroad performing piano concertos for 2 pianos. They often give educational concerts for schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Education of Cyprus. Their repertoire includes works by Mozart, Schubert, Liszt, Brahms, Rachmaninoff as well as many contemporary composers.

 

The Greek Jazz Project

584greekjazzlogoThe newly formed band ‘The Greek Jazz Project’ invites you at Technopolis 20, in a music evening, focusing on introducing what might be thought as Greek Jazz, on Friday, 16th of November 2018, at 8pm.

Appearing from the ‘40s until the ‘60s, this unique style of Greek Music was led by composers such as Giannis Spartakos and Niki Yiakovlev and sung by singers such as Mary Lo and Zoi Kouroukli, and many others. Greek Jazz consists of songs with Greek lyrics composed with interesting jazzy harmonies, melodies and rhythms, and been played in a clear jazzy feel.

The band is constituted by vocalist Olga Ksanthopoulou, pianist Loukas Louka, Double bassist Omiros Andreou and drummer Philipp Psillides.

 

Violin/ Viola & Violin Duo Concert

172violin stringsThe Paphos Music Lovers Association Winter Festival presents a violin - viola and violin duo concert, with Sorin Alexandru Horlea (violin, viola) and Savvas Lagou (violin) at Technopolis 20 in Paphos, on Tuesday, 13th of November, at 8pm.

Enjoy a colourful and diverse programme, with works by Mozart, Bartok, Wieniawski, Ysaye, plus some special arrangements by the duo, of Cypriot and Romanian traditional melodies.

The musical aspirations of the two soloists, have led them to explore points of similarity and departure between traditional and contemporary music from around the world, creating a new synthesis represented in their original compositions and arrangements. They combine their folk experience with classical training and interest in jazz harmony, creating a unique style that encapsulates the spirit of the 21st Century.

Weeks of the German Language: Screening of the film ‘Train to Freedom’

935train to freedomThe Goethe-Institut Cyprus, within the framework of “Weeks of the German Language”, presents the screening of the film ‘Train to Freedom’ on Thursday, 8th of November 2018, at Technopolis 20, starting at 18:30.

The German embassy in Prague, 30 September, 1989: 5,000 GDR refugees have been informed that they are allowed to leave. Their joy is followed by shock: the journey to the West will go through the GDR. It is the beginning of a trip full of tension and uncertainty. A historical event that has decisively shaped the path to German unity is retold here. The focus of the film is the perspective of the people who hoped that their departure would not be thwarted at the very last moment. The film is made up of archival material, interviews with witnesses of the time and re-enacted scenes. (Directors: Sebastian Dehnhardt and Matthias Schmidt, drama/ documentary/ historical, 90 min, 2014, in German with English subtitles)

 

Housemaids and their parallel worlds: Photography exhibition ‘Apples for Sale’ and screening of the documentary ‘Together Apart’

723goethe exhibitionThe Goethe-Institut Cyprus, in collaboration with Technopolis 20 in Paphos, within the framework of “Weeks of the German Language” 2018, presents the project ‘Housemaids and their parallel worlds’, a reflection on the lives of female migrant labourers who work and live as household help. How do they manage to fulfil their desire for meaning, affirmation and individuality? How can they have a successful new beginning in their home country following a forced departure?

Within the framework of this project, the photography exhibition Apples for Sale, by the German photographer Rebecca Sampson will take place, who will also open the exhibition at Technopolis 20, on Saturday, 3rd of November 2018 at 18:00. After the opening, at 18:00 the documentary film Together Apart, will be screened, by the German anthropologist and filmmaker Maren Wickwire, as a joint art project. A reception will follow. The exhibition will continue until Friday, 16th of November 2018.

 

Pianosaxpiano: Solo and chamber music for sax and two pianos

303saxpianoAn interesting music evening with solo and chamber music for saxophone and two pianos, entitled ‘Pianosaxpiano’, will take place at Technopolis 20, on Thursday, 1st of November 2018, at 8pm.

The Associate Professor of Music Education and Saxophone at European University Cyprus, Dr. Yiannis Miralis, the Polish pianist specialised in chamber music repertory, Jakub Tchorzewski and the concert pianist Michael Tsalka, will perform a programme with works for solo piano and four hands by F. Schubert, F. Chopin, Y. Braun, and works for saxophone and piano by W. Benson, N. Rota, G. Karvellos, M. Shrude, J. Naulais, M. Bunce.

 

Piano Concert ‘Ordinary magic'

82920180904 220116The exquisite Ukrainian piano soloist and concertmaster Tatjana Romashkina comes in Cyprus to meet one of her students, Adele Daunoraviciute that has been awarded five times by the president of Lithuania for her music achievements, at Technopolis 20, on Saturday, 27th of October 2018, at 7pm.

The piano duet will perform a repertoire from different epochs and genres, both solo and four-hands works. The audience will have the opportunity to discover and connect with music close to their heart and soul and enjoy first-class musicians in one performance. The programme will include works by W.A. Mozart, F. Schubert, F. Chopin, C. Saint-Saens, M. Ravel, A. Scriabin and S. Rachmaninoff.

 

Classical Guitar Charity Concert

198classical guitar techniqueA charity concert for classical guitar will take place at Technopolis 20 in Paphos, on Friday, 19th of October 2018, at 8pm, with Neoklis Natiotis. All net proceeds will go to Margarita Liasidou Foundation.

The programme will include works by J.S. Bach, Francisco Tárrega, Isaac Albéniz, Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis etc.

Neoklis Natiotis is an amateur musician that his love for music and mainly his passion for the classical guitar have never faded. This led him many years ago to start classical guitar lessons, so as to able today to organise his own concerts. Mr Neoklis originates from Mesogi, Paphos and in 1973 he left Cyprus to study Medicine in Germany. By finishing his studies he went to Vienna where he worked in a hospital and in ‘Rescuing’ (Rettung) for 25 years. Since 2015 he is a retired and visits Cyprus very often.
