Fuego by Eleni Foureira is the tenth most listened to Eurovision entry of all time, a new survey revealed on Wednesday, a few days before the 66th Eurovision contest.
The song took Cyprus to second place, its highest ever placing, in 2018. It was streamed over 91.2 million times on Spotify according to a new research by UK based price comparison site Uswitch.
This ranks the entry of the Greek singer tenth in the most-listened to Eurovision entries of all time.
The most played Eurovision song of all time is Arcade, by Duncan Laurence of the Netherlands which was streamed 685.6 million times. The platform attributed the song’s success to the power of TikTok as the song went viral on the platform in late 2020, after winning the contest in 2019.
Last year’s Eurovision winners Måneskin hold the second place with 294.6m streams of their 2021 entry Zitti e buoni. Another Italian entry, Soldi,(2019) by Mahmood ranks third with 198.5m streams.
Among the top 10 is also Iceland’s 2020 entry by Daði Freyr, in eighth place with the song Think About Things. Despite the fact the artists could not perform live at the show after a member tested positive for Covid, the song was played about 109.7 million times on Spotify.
The remaining songs are all entries after 2009, with the exception of ABBA’s Waterloo (1974) which was streamed 172.1 million times.
This year, Cyprus will participate in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest with yet another singer from Greece, Andromache, who will be singing Ela.
Cyprus will be the ninth country to perform at the Second Semi Final of the contest which will be broadcasted by CyBC at 10pm on May 12.
