With a busy time coming up as Christmas nears, Paphos venue Technopolis 20 will host several music nights and creative mornings in the coming days. On Friday a special music theatre concert is taking place inspired by Shakespeare’s King Lear, brought to the stage by the Pythia Trio from Greece.

“King Lear’s three daughters meet again and reflect on their father’s story, power games, truth and lies and what that entails,” say organisers. “The three different characters try to approach the characteristics of a ‘proper’ leader, the ethos required, the trap of arrogance and the dangers of the thirst for power and imposition. Characteristics that can undermine even fraternal relationships and act as a catalytic factor to redefine the balance of a wider group.

“The Pythia trio,” they add, “faithful to its path so far, is inspired once again by a project in the context of musical theatre in which the piano and expanded techniques are the protagonists – as they are found in the modern ergography and the wider repertoire of the instrument in the 20th and 21st century – through works originally written for the three pianists. Elements such as speech, song, theatrical presence through role-playing, the use of pre-recorded material and various other sound sources are now characteristic tools of the presentation of each project of the trio. Myrto Akrivou, Iro Menegou and Thalia Papadopoulou from Greece present the contemporary concert titled The Three Lears.”

Two days later, the 9th annual Christmas Market of Technopolis 20 will take place hosting several local artists, professional and amateur creators and voluntary organisations. The market will run from 10am to 5pm, with coffee and cake being served in the front garden.

On December 6, Andreas P Nicolaou and Galina Dimova will present a violin and piano recital in memory of Ludmila Nicolaou. The A Song of Love recital will include works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonín Dvořák, Josef Suk, Edward Elgar, Franz von Vecsey and Fritz Kreisler.

On the following evening, the Technopolis 20 Classics series will present its annual Christmas Concert, for the first time at the Attikon Multicultural Space. Bassoonist Mavroudes Troullos and the harpist Eleonora Congiu will join forces to present a programme of chamber music and to create a romantic and dreamy atmosphere. The musicians will travel from Brussels especially for this concert to offer chamber music works by mainly French composers where harp and bassoon were developed and loved.
