Dance Ηouse Lefkosia’s new programme Artists in Process 2021 will take place this autumn and is now accepting applications from interested artists. Joining the programme this year will be choreographer Mary Nunan who will facilitate a 10-day workshop and mentor the applicants towards the creation of a solo work.

Artists from all artistic fields be it dance, theatre, visual arts, film, writing and so on, who work with the body and have an interest in movement and choreography are invited to apply. The selected six to seven participants will be offered free participation in Mary Nunan’s workshop, 25 hours of free use of the Dancehouse for rehearsals, two online meetings with the mentor and a small fee for their work.

The programme will begin at the end of August. This will be Mary Nunan’s workshop, split into morning and afternoon sessions. The focus of the morning workshops will be on attuning to movement, to the relationship between mind and body, to the experience of time and of composition. All to be explored, individually and collectively, through a series of guided improvisations.

The focus of the afternoon workshops will be on the process of creating a solo work. “Here,” says Dancehouse Lefkosia, “we will identify some of the general challenges that have to be faced at various stages of a creative process and discuss ways in which they can be skillfully negotiated. There will be an opportunity to explore some methods that can be used to develop these skills.” Nunan will also engage with each artist on the specific issues that their process is throwing up for them. Her role in this regard will be to support each artist to clarify and distil their ideas and to respond to the form and content of their emerging work.

The second stage of the programme will be individual research, which is to take place between September and November. The artists will have the opportunity to use the Dancehouse venue for rehearsals and the development of their work. Additionally, they will have two online meetings with the mentor for further support of their artistic process.

In early December, the selected artists will have a presentation to share their work with a facilitated conversation at the end of the event. Those interested in applying should send an email to dancehouselefkosia@gmail.com with the subject Artists in Process 2021 – Application by Sunday, May 16. The email should include their name, phone number, website, video links to previous works, their CV and answers to the questions ‘What is your artistic practice’ and ‘How does the workshop and the Artists in Process programme relate to your artistic practice?’. The answers should be no longer than 200 words each.
