This year’s Limassol carnival king is the youngest in the modern history of the institution, the municipality announced on Friday.

TV and theatre producer Dimitris Giannakou has been attending the carnival since he was three years old, and was unanimously voted during Thursday night’s meeting of the Limassol municipal council as the King of the Limassol carnival for 2023.

The municipality said Giannakou is a “true carnivalist” with more than 35 years participation in the carnival.

Since the age of 10 in 1993, he has participated in carnival parades with float teams as a dancer with impressive choreography and spectacular costumes, the municipality said.

Between 1995 and 2016 he has created groups and floats and has participated in numerous carnival events.

Since 2017 he has been an active volunteer member of the organisation committee for Limassol Carnival.

The coronation of the new king will take place on ‘Stinky Thursday’, February 16, the official first day of carnival events.

The big carnival parade is scheduled for Sunday, February 26.
