Dear Parishioners and Visitors

In June 2010 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI will come to Paphos. Our aim is to ask him to bless the Hospice of St. Michael. The whole project is the fruit of the good relations we have with the Orthodox Church in Cyprus especially with its head, Archbishop Chrysostomos and his successor in Paphos Metropolite George.

Indeed, in 1992 he welcomed us and obtained for us from the Department of Antiquities a full usage of Agia Kyriaki, the Church by St. Paul’s Pillar, allowing us to use the churches of his Diocese for burials and christenings, especially the beautiful Church of St. George. On 3/6/1994 he offered us the big parcel of land in Mezza Khorio where we created our cemetery and built our chapel with the generous financial participation of the Government of Cyprus.

While Metropolite of Paphos, Archbishop Chrysostomos requested the visit of the Pope to Cyprus; it was not then possible because the invitation ought to be from the President of the State and the Head of the Church.

In the meantime the Lord blessed him; he became Archbishop of Cyprus and he’ll have the satisfaction to receive the Pope with the President of the State. In June 2010 he’ll join his Holiness in blessing the Hospice of St. Michael, a worthy event to be kept in mind, for the generations to come, of the memorial visit of the Pope in Cyprus.

We aimed to achieve this project alone with our parishioners without asking the participation of anybody but now the situation has changed – we need the help of everybody. Until now the treasurer in charge of the project Mr Owen Donaghy has spent more than 1,400,000 (one million four hundred) Euro.
