Daryl and Anna Marketing Success
Laurence and Louise have just agreed to buy a lovely, secluded 3 bedroom bungalow with heated swimming pool in Peyia. Sorry to the many people who loved the property but couldn’t arrange their finances.
Daryl and Anna visit Shanghai
Taking a welcome break from our busy schedule in Paphos, we visited Shanghai. With its European architectural heritage, Shanghai has survived the test of time and carries a distinctive Chinese ‘twist’ which makes the city particularly fascinating, not to mention a photographers ‘dream come true’.
Although the sightseeing was on the agenda we were there to attend our daughter Mingqian’s graduation ceremony. The university’s sprawling campus was formally a vast convent with fabulous gardens and grand buildings and much of it is preserved and makes for a wonderful learning sanctuary.
Mingqian studied extensively in UK, and did research in Germany as well, during which time she met our son Terry and they now live happily in Shanghai. Mingqian was awarded her Doctorate of International Law with High Distinction, a very pleasant surprise and a fitting valediction of her great talent. Not surprising she has been offered a post as a lecturer with the East China University. We were delighted to meet the President of the university, a keen historian, who had much to say about Mingqian’s achievement. To commemorate the occasion we presented him with a wonderful edition of Cyprus history through stamps.
Young Daryl, came from Rotterdam for the occasion (where he fervently is seeking a post with an architectural firm for a year prior to his doing his Masters with London’s UCL) . Our daughter Andrea unfortunately had to work in London where she is carving a career as a professional photographer and was sorely missed by all, not least for her photographic skills. We are looking forward to the next Graduation ceremony which will be Anna’s for her Masters of Real Estate at Neapolis University in Paphos in 2013.
Exhibition “With Love to Women”
On Friday 4th November Dr.Yuriy Titovets from Ukraine organised a beautiful photographic exhibition in Paphos “With Love to Women”. The two local Rotary Clubs sponsored the event which attracted the Mayor of Paphos Mr.Savvas Vergas and many other buffs from the area.
Paphos aspires to be the European Capital of Culture in 2017 and this wonderful photographic exhibition showed that Paphos has an excellent chances.

St Patrick's 2011
Fitzgerald Marketing were proud to be the main sponsor for this years Fáilte Pafos St Patrick’s Celebration held at the Paphos Gardens Hotel. The Special Guest for the event was H.E. The Irish Ambassador Patrick Scullion who joined with the revelers to enjoy an evening of good food, music and Irish hospitality. The event was in aid of the St Michael’s Hospice 400 Countdown Campaign, which aims to see the hospice fitted out and opened for care in 2012. The event raised €1,489 towards the campaign.

Dreams Do Happen
In these days when everybody is focused on the negatives in life and bemoaning the worldwide economic downturn, dreams can still come true. A couple in the UK had long dreamt of moving to their dream home in Cyprus, they like many others had now come to a point in their life when it was the ‘right’ time personally to make the move. They had short listed a couple of villas they felt were right for them and all they needed to do was sell their property in the UK for it all to happen.
Not discouraged by all the negative press on the housing market they put their property on the market and within 72 hours it was sold! They are now preparing to to make the move to Paphos. They are making the move to Paphos through Fitzgerald Marketing, why?
Here is what they had to say:
Hi
You asked me to comment on your latest Newsletter, so without further ado…
I think it is very important to advertise how well Fitzgerald Marketing is doing. It provides customer comfort that we are all dealing with a successful, as well as professional business. A 15% sales increase is definitely something to shout about in these trying times we live in.
Highlighting the importance of Title Deeds is not to be underestimated, as there have been a few horror stories relayed here very recently, about property owners in Cyprus wishing to return to the UK and discovering that they cannot sell because they do not hold the Title Deeds. These stories have been followed up by how many years some owners have to wait before obtaining them. Sadly, this is not good press for people considering purchasing property abroad.
Unsurprisingly, this applies mostly for ‘new builds’ but again this is where Fitzgerald Marketing can maximise on their selective Resale business. It is another reason that provides trust between Fitzgerald Estates and your customers. It underlines that, we the customers are dealing with a professional and reliable business.
It is clear to anyone reading the monthly Newsletter that you are heavily involved with local events, charities, etc. and I for one enjoy reading what is happening in Cyprus, even though I am not living there…yet! You also clearly demonstrate that you are not just a money making business but are caring enough to put something back into the community. It is another one of those Trust issues I mentioned above.
One of the main reasons I have continued to browse your website constantly, as opposed to any other, is due to the portfolio you hold. It was clear to me from the start that Fitzgerald Marketing was not merely a run of the mill property agent but a discerning property specialist. I firmly believe it is that and the fact that you deal exclusively in the Resale market that sets you apart from the competition.
To finish I will simply say that living in the UK, I rely on several first class quality photographs, with a clear description of the property / price and its position.
Fitzgerald Marketing deliver in spades!
Kind regards and I hope to see you again soon.

The Jersey Leonis Boxing Club
On November the 5th Fitzgerald Marketing was back in the ring sponsoring The Jersey Leonis Boxing Club with our representative in Jersey Eddie Kirkup.
It was a successful weekend for Jersey amatuer boxing - taking six out of eight wins at the dinner boxing on Saturday.
But it wasn’t an easy night for the boxers. They were pushed all the way by the visiting Essex team.
Each and every bout was a battle, with all of them going the distance
The night kicked off with a junior littlewight bout and Jersey Leonis’ Stephen Buchanan in the red taking on Essex Select’s Joe Soundy in the blue. The young Jerseyman attacked from the off keeping the visitor on the back foot. With a unanimous vote Buchanan took the first win for Jersey.
Next up was the second junior bout. Jersey’s Nick Carpenter against visitor Joe Baisdon. Again it was a close match, with Carpenter edging ahead in the first two rounds, and Baisdon in the third, But by another unanimous verdict it was a win for Jersey.
Pisces boxer Taran Hase was next on the bill, against Essex’s Sean Boshell, and finally the opposition had found their feet. A unanimous verdict from the judges meant the first win of the night for the Essex side.
Jersey’s Ryan Hodgson was next to the ring in a welterweight bout with Dominik Streelcyk, and it was another battle of wills, with neither boxer backing down. Another unanimous win for Jersey and into the break the home side were winning three bouts to one.
Always drawing the boxing legends, the special guest for the evening was world light-heavyweigt champion John Conteh. His professional record stands at 34 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses. And he was impressed with the standard of boxers coming from the island.
John said: “I must come back to the training and I can only pass on my own experience and what worked for me. And I found most fights are won and lost on the training ground, absolute training.
You know it’s like a fuel, a petrol tank full of fuel. The car will go as long as you want, it will do the trip, your mind will let you down if you want to but if you are prepared properly why should you. You just go out there and make sure you come back when you’ve really exhausted everything.”
After the break 17-year-old Tom Frame faced his second ever senior bout, against Essex’s Manjot Singh. Frame is tipped as one of Jersey’s future stars and showed why on the night, winning the bout by a majority verdict. He also scooped the title of boxer of the night.
He was followed into the ring by Shane Goggin, whose opponent sent him into a spin with the help of a punch and slippery canvas. But the slip was the only mishap of the bout with Goggin winning by a majority.
There was another loss conceded by Boyd Munroe before the big bout of the night between Jersey’s Danny Kennedy and Essex’s Billy Wooders.
Kennedy is one of the stars of Leonis Boxing Club - and was ranked seventh in England last year but despite not boxing at his ideal weight he still managed to take another win for Jersey by a majority vote.
The final score on the night was Jersey’s 6 wins to Essex’s two.
We are Now looking forward to March 19th 2011 for the next tournament when we are expecting a very exciting boxing legend to be present.
The St. Michaels Hospice Christmas Party

The annual St Michael’s Hospice Christmas Party has come around again. It took place at the Alexander the great Hotel on Friday, 3rd December 2010. The evening included a live show by KBE entertainment, Live Greek Dancing, Irene Robertson (Vocalist) and from Rock FM, Paphian Paul. The guests enjoyed a fabulous international buffet and there was was a grand draw and special draw for a Manchester United shirt signed by all the team members which was won by Dr Joe Muscat-Baron a famous surgeon living in Dubai. The evening raised €6,700 for the St Michael’s Hospice.
Dad's Army

Fitzgerald Marketing is proud to have been the sponsor of the stage version of Dad’s Army based on the highly successful TV show at the Emba theatre in Emba village. The Stage One Theatre Group performed the show at the end of November to almost full houses each night.
The Stage One Theatre Group now into its 25th year has built a solid reputation in Cyprus for its quality and range of productions including comedy, drama, musical and pantomime. Aside from the more serious aspects of public performance, there is an active social side much enjoyed by the members.
Irish Ambassador Visits Paphos
The new Irish Ambassador to Cyprus Patrick Scullion made his first visit to Paphos at the invitation of Fáilte Pafos the Paphos based Irish cultural group on Friday 22nd October. Fáilte Pafos had organised a meet and greet evening with a buffet supper and wine tasting by the Kalamos Winery. More than 90 people turned out to welcome Patrick to the town and enjoy a very sociable evening.
Patrick Scullion who originates from Dublin is looking forward to his stay on the island and will be taking time out to enjoy the islands golf courses. Nicosia is his first ambassadorial posting and Patrick presented his credentials to President Christofias during the summer. He speaks French, a bit of Hindi and intends to try and get his tongue around the Greek language. He has served in north Ireland, London, New Delhi and Sydney as Consul General prior to coming to Cyprus.
Daryl Fitzgerald whose family has an Irish heritage joined with the Paphos Irish and their friends to ensure a very warm welcome for the Ambassador.

Wedding Bells
The Fitzgerald family celebrated the wedding of their eldest Son Terry to Mingqian Li. The ceremonies took place in Beijing in China and in Paphos, at the picturesque church of Ayia Kiriaki, the Church by Saint Paul’s Pillar. The summer saw the Fitzgerald Family meeting up in Beijing for the Chinese ceremonial part of the celebrations which were conducted in the courtyard of a 150 year old Restaurant in downtown Beijing. The family then returned to Cyprus along with Mingqian’s parents Chaoran and Chunguang for the celebrations in Paphos where they were joined by the Polish members of Anna’s family. It turned out to be one of the hottest and stickiest days of the year, but Terry showed great resolve maintaining an air of composure whilst wearing the full wedding suit.
After a brief stay in Cyprus the happy couple have returned to china and will make their home in Shanghai. Mingqian is busy working on her doctorate in International Law at Shanghai University and Terry is happily employed at Evapco, an American subsidiary, located in Shanghai. We wish them a long and happy life together.
Our sincere thanks goes to Mingqian’s parents, all our friends and relatives who come from Australia, Poland and Japan to join in the celebrations. Many thanks to all in the Paphos Parish community for their good wishes and support and a special thank you to Fr Jim who made the service a very happy memorable experience.

Flower Festival April 2010
As usual, the Flower Festival was visited by many, many people, though there was a worrying time when the Icelandic volcano prevented any planes arriving on the island. However, the “powers that be” must have heard about the Festival and lifted the restrictions just in time - believe that if you will!!!
The theme this year was “Songs of Praise” and each display portrayed hymns - some old, some new - with a connection to a story or passage from the Bible. As you may be able to see from the photos, an extraordinary amount of work has been put into these displays, I just wish we had enough room to show them all!!
This year’s charities being supported by the Festival are: Paphos, Heart Association, The Expatriates Kidney Patients Association and the building of St. Michael’s Hospice. Next year, the dates are 4th-6th May. Why not fit your holiday around this time and take in the Flower Festival. The weather will be lovely and warm, but not too hot.
St Michael’s Hospice Charity Functions
Informative Lunch

We sponsored an Informative Lunch for St Michael’s Hospice in March at the Corallia Beach Hotel and raised €3100. We gave out the new brochure for St Michael’s Hospice so everyone can see the facts; you can see the brochure on the link below. The hospice is for everyone regardless of creed or nationality, When we told a famous barrister from Nicosia about it and he was so impressed that he gave 500 Euros! 1.3 million Euros have been raised so far! Dr Phylactis Constantinides the recently retired General Manager of the Paphos General Hospital gave a short speech to the lunch party about the need for the St Michael’s Hospice in the Paphos community. He has kindly accepted the role of Medical Director of the St Michael’s Hospice when it is completed. www.fitzgeraldcyprus.com/hospice
Latin Paska Dinner

On the 9th April a Latin Paska (Easter) Dinner was held at the Alexander the Great Hotel and raised €4200 for the Hospice. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, especially Brenda and Phillip Backhouse for organising the event - Paphian Paul from Rock FM who was the MC and DJ, Irene Robertson whose singing was as fantastic as ever, the Philippina Singers. Andreas and Demetri the Cypriot Dancers and Eddie Bourne who took charge of the raffle. Also, we would like to thank Owen Donaghy, the Project Manager of the Hospice and the Minister of Health - Mr Christos Patsalides - who attended the dinner and donated €500 and of course the Mayor of Paphos, Mr Savvas Vergas. Thank you to everyone who attended the Dinner and also those who didn’t but bought raffle tickets! It was a great evening with people from all nationalities and everyone had a fantastic time.
Daryl Celebrates St Patrick's Day in Style
Daryl Fitzgerald joined with H.E. The Irish Ambassador, Tom Brady his wife Cathi and many of the Irish expatriates based in Paphos to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at the Village Inn at Kissonerga, Paphos. Although an Australian, Daryl’s family roots like many Australians extend back to Ireland so Daryl felt quite at home in the presence of good Irish food, drinks and music.
The event organised annually by Fáilte Pafos a local Irish cultural group was a great success raising over €700 for local charities. It featured two bands Abzorba, based in Cyprus and The Flight of Earls who flew in from Belfast specially for the occasion and produced a night of great Irish music.
Daryl (pictured) took time to relax and share a drink with Tom Brady a long time supporter of Irish cultural events in Paphos who made the long drive from Nicosia to share in the occasion.
Fitzgerald Estates Sponsor Jersey Leonis Boxing Club
Eddie Kirkup Fitzgerald Marketing representative in the Channel islands attended ‘An Evening With Frank Bruno MBE’ British Boxings Favourite and WBC World Heavyweight Champion organised by The Jersey Dinner Boxing Club. The event was held at the Hotel L’Horizon in Jersey and also included the Jersey Select v Royal Navy & Marines competing for the Corniche Apartments Gold Cup. The Jersey Select lost 3-2, when an extremely tight split-decision in the final bout went against Captain Craig Culkin. But after such a ding-dong contest against the Royal Navy and Marines, Select captain Jason Gardner said it was impossible to be anything but uplifted.
While there Eddie had time for a photo call with Frank Bruno MBE and the coveted World Heavyweight Champion Belt, which is about as close as Eddie will ever get to one.
Fitzgerald Estates has an increasing clientel from Jersy and the Channel Islands including Eddie Kirkup, a long time resident of Jersey and now also happy property owner in Paphos. This trend is understandable as people in the Channel Islands see the value in investing in Cyprus Resale Property in the current market.

Jersey Leonis boxers came so close to a whitewash victory over a South of England Select last night as they stormed in to lift the Fitzgerald Estates Gold Cup. Organised as part of the Sugar Ray Leonard evening at the Hotel de France, coach and cornerman Tony Burt was understandably delighted with the 4-1 victory over strong amateur opponents.

The winners were presented with their medals by the star of the night, boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, who delighted an audience of around 500 sports fans at the Hotel de France with a talk and question and answer session.
